D. Black was a fireman on Titanic whose first name isn't known. Not much in general known is about the person.
Mr. D. Black was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1871.
In April 1912 he was stationed at the Sailor’s Home in Southampton harbor. He had previously served on the Oceanic.
Black, along with colleagues Kinsella, Geer, Witt, Lloyd and Hosgood were signed on Titanic as last minute repacements for six crewmen who failed to arrive in time for sailing. He was 41 years old at the time.
On April 14, the ship made contact with an iceberg late at night. The damage this caused meant that the ship couldn’t stay afloat. On April 15 after midnight, the captain ordered for evacuation. Eventually Titanic foundered on 2:20 A.M.
Black perished in the sinking. His body wasn’t recovered.
