Ernest Frederick Allen (March 10th, 1888 - December 27th, 1968) was a trimmer on the Titanic. He survived the sinking, while his brother died.
Ernest Allen was born on March 10th, 1888 in London. His half-sister Amelia had a child out of wedlock, Charles Frederick Blades (b. 1895) who was raised by Ernest's parents and became a surrogate brother to he and his brother.
When he signed-on to the Titanic, on April 6th, 1912; he gave his address as 9 Short Street (Chapel, Southampton). He normally worked as a fireman but on the Titanic he was employed as a trimmer. As such he received £5 10s per month. He had previously served on the Olympic.
Allen was rescued in Collapsible B. His nephew/surrogate brother died in the sinking. Initially Ernest Allen was also reported lost.
Ernest Frederick Allen passed away in December 27th, 1968. At the time of his death, he was the last surviving crewmember who worked in the Engineering department.
