James Cameron is a Canadian-American filmmaker and environmentalist who directed and co-produced the 1997 film 'Titanic', which won many awards. He later directed the Ghosts of the Abyss documentary in 2003.

Biography[]

James Francis Cameron was born on August 16th, 1954 in Kapuskasing in Ontario, Canada, he was the middle child of 3 to Phillip and Shirley Cameron.

Filming of the Titanic[]

His next big project was about the most famous ship off all: the RMS Titanic, which hit an iceberg in 1912 to sink in less than 3 hours with rougly 700 survivors and approximately 1500 deaths. Starting off in 1995 with a budget of around $200 000 000 USD, co-financed by Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox, Cameron began taking several dives to the wreck of the ship, which was discovered a decade earlier by Ballard to capture footage which would later be used for the film, he was also constructing a replica of the ship at the Rosarito Beach in Mexico and hiring actors; such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, filming then began in late-1996, with actors such as Gloria Stuart and Bill Paxton playing Rose Calvert and Brock Lovett.

Titanic 1996 Miniseries[]

As Cameron was working on the film, in 1996 director Robert Lieberman began producing a TV Series about the same topic as Cameron to cash in on the pre-release hype. It was rushed into production and was hastily completed over the course of 3 - 5 months, thus many Titanic fans found what was in their mind inexcusable inaccuracies found and felt they should have done better due to the massive knowledge available about the ship in the 1990’s, even though the series was made on a relatively small budget.

Finishing of the film[]

As Cameron finished filming the movie, releasing it on December 19th 1997. It achieved great reception and success, becoming the most highest-grossing film ever at the time, earning about $1.84 Billion USD and becoming the most successful film until 2009. It was nominated for 14 Academy Awards and won 11.

He made a 3D Version of the film in 2012, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking. Which earned an additional $343 Million which pushed the total to $2.1 Billion in grossing.
