Johan Samuel Andersson was a passenger on the Titanic.
Johan Samuel Andersson was born in Stommen Härja, Skaraborg’s Iän, Sweden in December 11th, 1885. He was the son of Anders Gustaf Andersson and Anna-Sofia Lindström.
He emigrated to the US in 1907. After many years he obtained American citizenship. In 1910 he was living in Hartford, Connecticut. In 1911 or 1912, he went back to Sweden to visit his parents.
On April 10 he was on the Titanic in Southampton, when he boarded he had tickets to travel in Third Class.
On April 14, the ship got in trouble when she brushed against an iceberg with her starboard side. The water started coming in fast. This prompted the captain to sound the ship. On April 15 at midnight, they had come to the conclusion: Titanic would sink. The evacuation was started.
What happened to Johan Samuel Andersson isn’t known, but he died after the ship sank at 2:20 A.M. His body was not recovered.
On January 23, 1913, his father received SEK 874:08 (£48) from the charity fund. On June 9, 1914, both parents also received compensation for the loss of their son.
