John Benson stemmed from Belfast, Ireland, where he was given life around the year 1886. Nothing else is known of his background.
Belfast was the place where Titanic would be built. On Friday 29th March 1912, John Benson had embarked on the liner before she would do her sea trials, as an able bodied seaman. John was on the vessel White Head before he joined her. Having finished her tests for seaworthiness succesfully, Titanic was on her delivery trip from Belfast to Southampton on the 4th of April. John at the time was in his twenties.
Upon arrival in Southampton, Benson disembarked. What he did after that is not established. Titanic proceeded according to schedule and steamed out of Southampton on the 10th of April, loaded with many passengers and crew, but without Benson.
