John Bertram Brady was a businessman and a First Class passenger aboard Titanic.
Early life[]
John Bertram Brady was born on 3 December 1870 in Satsop, Columbia, Washington. He was a man with dark brown hair, grey eyes and a fair complexion. His friends often called him 'Bert'. John had Irish blood from his father's side, John Brady, who was a farmer and Scottish from his mother named Emma R Campbell.
Sometime in July 1880, the family had moved to Pomeroy. Brady had one brother, one sister and a half-sister. He started his education in Pomeroy before studying at Bishop Scott's Academy in Portland, Oregon, whilst his father began a store, which Johan Bertram took over later.
John stayed there when his family moved to San Jose in 1900 , still operating as a merchant.
After becoming the vice-president of the Pomeroy Savings Bank in 1903, he sold the small business. In 1905 his father passed away. One year later, he had to come and help the family as the 1906 earthquake had hit San Fransisco hard. They lived there, and the house was destroyed and mother and sister were hurt.
Titanic[]
Mr. Brady and his sister were touring Europe in 1912 as part of a vacation. He then wanted to return to Washington and booked a passage on the Titanic. Two months before boarding, he was worried about the coal strikes, and considered a German liner if the Titanic couldn't sail.
Of course, she did. John stayed in the luxurious cabin A-21. He came on board on the 10th of April in Southampton.
On April 14, the liner hit an iceberg and sank on April 15 after midnight. Brady didn't survive the sinking. His body wasn't found. The tragic news hit Pomeroy on April the 20th. A memorial service for Mr. Brady followed, on 28 April 1912.
