Mr. Hoyle was a fictional first class passenger and professional gambler in A Night To Remember. He was portrayed by Redmond Phillips.
On Titanic[]
He is first seen gambling with four others when Lightoller enters the smoking room after ending his duty at 10 PM. One of the other gamblers, Mr. Yates, has traveled on the Majestic before, which Lightoller also served on. After Lightoller and a steward chat briefly, Lightoller exits the smoking room through the Palm Court doors, with Yates staring at him. Hoyle catches Yates distracted, and continues the game.

"I splashed my drink. Steward!"
He appears briefly at 11:30 PM, and again after the collision, stating that he splashed his drink (due to the collision). He is seen again around the same time passengers are appearing on deck, putting his drink down, whilst noticing the slight list to bow. The others, however, don't become concerned. At around 1:00, he leaves the table to go on deck, causing the others to question if the Titanic is really in danger. Hoyle is later seen overhearing Sir Richard and his wife discusses how men are being allowed into lifeboats on the starboard side after watching a 13 year old boy almost get denied entrance into Lifeboat 4, and quickly departs for the starboard side. He is later seen entering Lifeboat 1 and recognizes the couple also entering the boat, commenting that "this is the best place to be".

After the ship sinks, the occupants of the boat watch as Titanic sinks, and briefly argue whether they should go back to rescue survivors. Hoyle is of the opinion to keep their distance, concerned about getting swamped by desperate swimmers. He is last seen attending the memorial service on Carpathia.
Trivia[]
- Although Mr. Hoyle was not a gambler on Titanic, he is based off of Charles Romaine, George Brereton, and Harry Haven Homer, all of which were traveling under false names.
- He replaced Laura Mabel Francatelli's seat in Emergency Lifeboat 1.
