Rossmore Edward Abbott (February 21st, 1896 - April 15th, 1912) was a Third Class passenger of the Titanic. He died in the sinking.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Rossmore Edward Abbott was born on 21 February 1896. He was the son of Stanton Abbott and Rhoda Mary Hunt. He had one brother: Eugene Joseph Abbott. Rhoda divorced Stanton on early 1911. Soon, Rossmore had to help her mother to supported the family and worked as a bootmaker, while Rhoda supported herself as a seamstress.

On the Titanic[]

The family boarded the Titanic at Southampton as a Third Class passenger (ticket no. CA2673, £20 5s).

During the sinking, the family was woken up by a steward, ordering them to wear a life jackets and to go up on deck. They soon realized that there's something wrong with the ship. Rhoda managed to get Rossmore and Eugene pass through to the boat deck, but only several lifeboats were left. At 1:45. AM, they moved forward, reached to one of the last remaining lifeboats, Collapsible C which was being loaded. Rhoda must have thought that Rossmore and Eugene were not allowed to board the lifeboat as it was "women and children first". So Rhoda stepped back to join with Rossmore and Eugene, watching in sadness as Collapsible C being lowered away from the ship. This is a rather strange story, since men and older boys would be allowed in, because First Officer Murdoch had let men enter in boats on the starboard side the whole time, even Bruce Ismay found himself a seat in Collapsible C. So Abott could've easily been in that boat with her two sons.

Fate[]

As the Titanic took her final plunge, Mrs. Abbott and her two sons jumped from the deck. Rhoda tried to grabbed her sons but they were lost. She later was pulled into the water-logged Collapsible A. Rhoda never saw her sons again.

The body of Rossmore Abbott was recovered and was buried at sea on 24 April 1912.
