Samuel Abelson

Mr. Samuel Abelson was born in 1882 in Russia. He had at least one brother.

He became a bookkeeper and married Hannah Nantes Jacobson, an expert dressmaker. The couple lived in Paris, Île-De-France, France, for most of their life and never had children. Samuel's brother who lived in New York, New York, United States, would often send letters to the Abelson couple explaining how he lived the American Dream. These letters would really influence the couple who, in 1912, sold everything in order to move to New York. They bought ticket 3381, which cost £24, and on April 10th, 1912, boarded the brand new liner Titanic in Cherbourg as Second Class passengers. Samuel was 30 years old at the time.

On April 14 April, 20 minutes before midnight, Titanic had hit an iceberg but Samuel and his wife didn't hear anything and were asleep. Around midnight, the couple were in bed when they suddenly heard a knock on the door. Hannah went to answer the door and a steward advised her of the situation. The couple put on their shoes and a life jacket and left their cabin still wearing their pajamas. Once on deck, they were told about the "women and children only" situation and Samuel knew he would have to let his wife go. He placed her safely into lifeboat 10 before stepping back into the crowd never to be seen again. He would perish that night and his body was never found.

His wife survived and later got remarried to WWI veteran Edward Douglas Bolton.
