Sarah Rebecca Daniels (November 10th, 1875 - 19??) was a First Class passenger of the Titanic. She was a servant of the Allison family. She survived the sinking.

Early Life[]

Miss Sarah Rebecca Daniels (also known as "Sallie") was born in Marylebone, London, England, in 1875. She was baptized in St. Marylebone, Westminster, on January 2, 1876. She was the sixth of nine children to Samuel Daniels and Catherine Mary Warren.

On March 1912, she was hired by Hudson Joshua Creighton Allison as a maid for his wife Bess. The Allison family also hired George Swane (as a chauffeur), Alice Catherine Cooper (nursemaid for the Allison's children Loraine and Trevor), and Amelia Mary Brown (as a cook). As an adult she was described as: 5' 6'' tall, with a fair complexion, fair hair and blue eyes.

Aboard the Titanic[]

On April 10, 1912, Allison family and their employees, including her, boarded the Titanic in Southampton for Montréal, Canada. Sarah went on a first class trip with the Allisons and Alice Cleaver, while George Swane and Amelia Brown went on a second class trip. Sarah shared a cabin with Allison's oldest daughter Helen.

Sarah sent a postcard from Queenstown to a friend Nell Green:

I wish you were here, it is a lovely boat and it would do you good. Am just going on deck. Fisgig.

Fisgig was a nickname Sarah Daniels used.

On the night of April 14, 1912, after the Titanic hit an iceberg, Sarah saw something was wrong and went to warn Hudson Allison. However, failed to convincing him that something is up, he becomes angry at Sarah for waking the family so she decides to go out alone to investigate. She also tried to convince the nursemaid, Alice Cleaver, who believed her immediatly because she had her own worries. The family however wasn't too concerned.

On deck, she met several crew members who directed her to Lifeboat 8 and assured her that "it was just a precautionary measure".This lifeboat was launched at approximately 01:00 A.M. It had been about an hour and 20 minutes since the collision. Fortunately, Sarah was saved from disaster but the Allisons and their daughter Loraine died in the sinking of the Titanic, with the infant Trevor the only survivor of the family.

She told the Manitoba Free Press that "The boat I was in was not very crowded. There were only 4 men in the boat and they took the oars."

"There was no officer in the boat and a woman steered as we were rowing away in the darkness"

Once on the Carpathia it had been reported that Miss Cooper refused Sarah Daniels access to baby Trevor.

Later Life[]

It is not known exactly what happened to her after the Titanic disaster. It is assumed that she remained in Canada, possibly Montreal, where she is believed to have married and lived her life.

1996 Miniseries Titanic[]

Strangely, Sarah Daniels weren't shown in this miniseries. Her role was taken over by Alice Cooper, where she also became Bess Allison's maid. She was also the one who was scolded by Hudson Allison when she tried to convince him that something was wrong with the ship. It is presumed that Sarah Daniels was one of the maids who appeared at the Allison family house at the beginning of the film.

Alice bring the baby. Sarah, find me my clothes. I'll get Loraine.

—Bess Allison to Alice Cooper and Sarah Daniels

Sarah Daniels appears in this miniseries, portrayed by an extra. However she is wrongly shown sharing a cabin with Alice Cooper, Trevor and Loraine Allison. She was also mistakenly placed on Lifeboat 3 instead of 8. In this miniseries, she first appear after the collision, which she was told by Bess to find her clothes, while Alice get Trevor up.
