Seaman Holmes was a fictional seaman of the RMS Titanic who appeared in the 2012 Miniseries. He was portrayed by Luke Norris.
He only appears in Episode 4 as the commander of a lifeboat with Margaret "Molly" Brown, Eleanor Widener, Countess of Rothes, and the Countess' maid Roberta Maioni.
Following the sinking of the Titanic, he outright refuses to go back and help the people in the water and even verbally mocks the Countess when she questions his decision not to go back. Afterwards, Molly Brown has had enough of Holmes' rule over the boat and tells him that they are going back to help them. Holmes tries to put down Molly's rebellion by stating that he is in charge of the boat, only to have Molly threaten to throw him overboard if he doesn't comply. Eleanor helps man the oars while the Countess of Rothes takes the tiller. By the time the lifeboat reaches the scene of the sinking, they are only able to save John Batley.
Trivia[]
- He is mostly based on one of Titanic's real quartermasters, Robert Hichens who was in command of Lifeboat 6.
- It is noted that Eleanor Widener survived in Lifeboat 4, which was under the command of Quartermaster Perkis. Also, Lifeboat 4 did rescue people from the water.
- The Countess of Rothes survived the sinking in Lifeboat 8, which was under the command of Seaman Jones who gave the Countess the tiller once the RMS Carpathia was in sight.
