Su'ādah Ḥannā Nasr-Rizq was a passenger on the Titanic.
Su'ādah Ḥannā Nasr-Rizq’s origin lay in Sar'al, Syria. There, he came into this world in the 1890’s, maybe 1892. Sar’al was a town in what we call Lebanon these days, but was back then placed under the islamic rule of the Turks.
Later, Su’adah was a resident of Tibnīn, another current Lebanese town. In 1912, he had to run away from his country as he had caused mayhem for some reason and had a bad name in his local as he was notorious for something unacceptable, not specified what. Others from Tibnīn were with him on his journey. His destination remains unknown.
Titanic[]
Su’adah had booked Third Class on the RMS Titanic and boarded her on April 10, in Cherbourg.
On April 14, an iceberg was sighted in front of the bow at 23:39 P.M. Just a minute later, a scraping noise was heard by many of the people that slept in the bow as Titanic had just hit the mass after a desperate attempt to slow her down and turn to port hadn’t been enough to get away from the iceberg. From that moment on, Titanic was doomed. Her hull had been breached on several places which led to massive amounts of water finding its way into the ship.
On April 15, just after midnight, Captain Smith started the evacuation. He had just learned from Thomas Andrews that the Titanic couldn’t take on so much water and would founder in 2 hours at best. The lifeboats carried less than 700 people of the ship while 1503 perished wen Titanic disappeared into the depths. Many froze in the mercilessly cold sea.
Sadly, Su’adah was one of those victims. We don’t know what he did during the fatal night. His body was lost to the sea.
