Miss, you shouldn't be here now."

—Steward 4 and Rose DeWitt Bukater

This steward handed out lifebelts to steerage passengers offscreen. He went then up to the D-Deck with a few remaining lifejackets. He wandered the corridors, with the water rising faster.

On his way there, he encountered a panicking passenger (Rose). Doing what he was ordered to, he told her not to panic, put her lifebelt on and go to the Boat Deck. Rose, however, tried to pull him the other way to her boyfriend in distress. Steward 4 constantly interrupted her attempts to explain her situation.

Finally, Rose shouted "Listen!" and punched Steward 4 in the face. Shocked, he dropped his lifebelts and simply said "the hell with you" before bailing away. He stumbled away in pain, but not before picking the lifejackets back up.

Fate[]

The steward continued handing out lifejackets until he found the water near him and decided to evacuate. At some point, he put on a coat and made it outside of the ship, but froze to death in the water. His body was bumped into by Lifeboat 14.

Trivia[]

  • He did not appear in Rose's Dream even though Rose met him in real life and he presumably died. This may be because in Rose's mind he is an antagonist.
  • Mark Capri said on set that he gave the steward the name Jonathan in set so he could remember his role a bit better.
