Edith Evans is one of my favorite passengers. I've always wanted to know, why didn't Edith Evans get on the Collapsible D? some accounts state that an officer said that Collapsible D was full and could only accommodate 1 more woman, which was eventually filled by Caroline Lane Brown (as we saw in A Night to Remember), then Seaman Lucas shouted to her that there is another boat waiting for Evans. But, wasn't Collapsible D launched only half full? whether Evans deliberately stepped aside (because according to the article I've read, Evans had a prediction that she would die in the water) or maybe she failed to get into Collapsible D because it was lowered too quickly? I don't understand. The next question is, whether Edith Evans managed to get into Collapsible A or not? Considering that she was last seen running across the boat deck towards Collapsible A. One of the survivors on Collapsible A, George Rheims said that maybe Edith Evans made it onto Collapsible A and said he had to get Evans to stay standing balancing the boat as it was filled by water but then slowly gave up and died of hypothermia. But how could George Rheims think it was Evans when it was pitch of darkness and soaking wet? could that woman maybe Elin Gerda Lindell, one of the 2 women known to have made it to Collapsible A? this is still remain a mystery.
