Victor Gairan Andrea Giglio was a First Class passenger of the Titanic. He served as a valet (probably more of a secretary or personal assistant) to Benjamin Guggenheim. He died the sinking.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Victor Gaitan Andrea Giglio was born on 17th June 1888, in Toxteth Park, Liverpool, England. He was the son of Frederici Josephi Giglio, a cotton merchant and his wife Despina Sepse.

He was baptized at the church of Maria de Monte Carmeli (Our Lady of Mount Carmel) in Liverpool on 21st July 1888. He had three brothers, Richard, Harold, and Edgar. They're living at 22 Linnet Lane, Aigburth, Toxteth Park, Liverpool.

Eventually he was employed by one of America's richest men, Benjamin Guggenheim.

Aboard the Titanic[]

On 10th April 1912, Victor boarded RMS Titanic at Cherbourg (ticket number 17593) with Mr. Guggenheim, his mistress Léontine Aubart and her maid Emma Sägesser. boarded the RMS Titanic at Cherbourg (ticket number 17593), along with Mr. Guggenheim's French chauffeur, Mr René Pernot, who traveled in Second Class. Victor was 23 years old at the time.

Fate[]

On April 14, Titanic struck an iceberg in the late night which led to small gashes in her hull below the waterline, and she started to take on seawater rapidly. On April 15, shortly after midnight, the captain realised they would sink and decided that the passengers should be evacuated and ordered to prepare the lifeboats.

During the sinking, Benjamin and Victor escorted Mme. Aubart and Sägesser to lifeboat 9. Shortly before the Titanic went down, Giglio returned to his room and changed into his finest evening wear, his master Benjamin Guggenheim did likewise. Giglio and Guggenheim were last seen near the Grand Staircase around 2:05-2:10 A.M. They died in the sinking after Titanic went down at 2:20 A.M.

Benjamin Guggenheim and Victor Giglio to Thomas Andrews

In A Night to Remember, Giglio was portrayed by Paul Hardwick. He first appeared when the Titanic sank, Mr. Guggenheim and Giglio met Thomas Andrews in the Smoking Room.

Mr. Andrews was concerned about Mr. Guggenheim refusing to put on his life jacket, to which he replied that he and Giglio were dressed in their best and prepared to go down like gentlemen, which Giglio justified.

Titanic (1997)[]

In the 1997 film Titanic, Giglio was portrayed by Chris Cragnotti. He first appeared when he, Mr. Guggenheim and Mme Aubart boarded the Titanic at Cherbourg.

When the Titanic sank, Giglio and Mr. Guggenheim stayed in the Grand Staircase, and both were offered a life jacket from a steward. Mr. Guggenheim refused, and asked for brandy instead.

By the time the water had started to flood the Grand Staircase, Giglio and Mr. Guggenheim watched in horror as the water began to approach.

Both Giglio and Mr. Guggenheim appear during the Rose's dream scene, smiling at Rose and clapping when Rose and Jack Dawson kiss.

Benjamin Guggenheim and Victor Giglio

In the 2012 miniseries Titanic, Giglio was portrayed by Joseph May, this time in a much bigger role than his two previous portrayals.

When the Titanic sank, Giglio and Emma Sägesser rushed to Mr. Guggenheim's cabin and warned Mr. Guggenheim and Mme. Aubart to get up and go to the boat deck.

Mme. Aubart then panicked and prayed, while Mr. Guggenheim initially did not believe the ship was sinking until Giglio reassured him, and had Giglio escort Mme Aubart and Sägesser back to their cabin.

Mr. Guggenheim also commented to Giglio that if he drowned he wouldn't care if he was featured in the newspapers, also suggesting to Giglio that in future, don't be in a disaster with foreigners, to which Giglio replies that he is a foreigner.

After escorting Mme. Aubart and Sägesser to Lifeboat 5, Giglio asked Mr. Guggenheim what they would do now. Mr. Guggenheim then replied that they should return to the cabin to change into more dignified clothes and then see what would happen.

Mr. Guggenheim then stayed in the general room with Thomas Andrews, where Giglio brought him a drink. Mr. Guggenheim then told Giglio that he could leave, but Giglio chose to stay with him.

Both Giglio and Guggenheim were last seen when they encountered Lord Manton with his family, who asked if there were any lifeboats left, to which Mr. Guggenheim replied that there were still several lifeboats being loaded on A Deck.
